Herts
Gay Community was
originally founded in early 1970's by a small group of gay people. The
aims of the group are:
To provide opportunities for members to find support and friendship, particularly
through the organisation of regular social events and sport.
To publish, and distribute, a monthly newsletter for members.
To raise funds and make donations to gay related charities as appropriate.
To promote a positive image of gay people in the local area.

Herts
Gay Community is a friendly social group for gay people of all ages.
We are based in Hertfordshire and provide a varied programme of activities
of interest to members of the gay community.
We were formed in the 1970's, at a time when Gay Liberation was at its
height, but when there wasn't the range of gay support organisations,
clubs and entertainment that exists today.
The gay world has moved on a lot in the last thirty years but we are sure
that our group still has a role to play, particularly for those who find
it difficult to come to terms with their sexuality, who find the gay scene
intimidating and who can benefit from the support of a social group. We're
non-profit-making and non-political.
While we are not geared up to help people in a structured way, we generally
find that our members can help others as they share what they have encountered
in their own experiences. However, if you have particular support needs,
then we can generally point you in a direction that may be able to help.
We produce a regular newsletter, updating you on the group's activities,
letting you know who to contact and publishing the forthcoming diary.
We hold regular pub nights, and dine out once a month. Other regular calendar
highlights are a photo competition evening, badminton, table tennis, a
summer garden party, a Christmas meal and New Year celebrations.
Some events are held in people's homes ranging from simple coffee evenings
to parties and barbeques.
We also enjoy trips out to gay venues or places of interest, such as theatre
or cinema, as well of places of historic interest.
Each year we have an annual meeting where the committee is elected and
other matters affecting the group are discussed.
Your membership can cost from as little as 8 pounds per year, though we
encourage larger contributions from those in full-time employment.
